Join us for one last play

After school on Friday, March 20th, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., we will be throwing a Goodbye Picnic to honor all the memories made at the beloved Jenkintown Castle. This will be the last chance to climb, play, swing and pretend on the structure before demolition over Spring Break. We will have picnic dinners for sale and an amazing auction of donated items from sports teams and local haunts. Games will be played and there will even be a chance to leave a goodbye message on the castle in sharpie for all to see in its final days.

All proceeds from this event will help us reach our goal of 1.5 million dollars.

This is also when wooden (not composite) fence slats can be picked up by those who donated them. Bricks will also be for sale as we wrap up our fundraising. You won’t want to miss this fun family event!

Welcome to Legacy Park

The mission of Legacy Park is to be a community space that serves the children of Jenkintown and the young at heart. Let’s create an inclusive park where play and memories can thrive, as they have for generations.

Jenkintown School District is the smallest school district I represent and one of the smallest in our state, but it has an outsized impact on the community around it. Its auditorium hosts our amateur theater, its fields host our club sports, and its grounds are open to all, Jenkintown residents and non-residents alike.

– PA State Representative Napoleon J. Nelson

Why now?

Built in 2002 by community volunteers, the current playground has served us well—but it is no longer safe or accessible. It’s time to reimagine this cherished space for today’s children and tomorrow’s generations.

Phase One preliminary schematics
Phase 1 Master Plan

Why Jenkintown?

The bottom line: this playground serves every child, every day – and is used by the whole community year-round

  • Just 0.58 square miles, Jenkintown is a walkable, close-knit borough
  • No school buses – children walk to school and the playground daily
  • 30% of students are children of color; 21% are economically disadvantaged; 13% receive special education services

Jenkintown School District has always made the most of any resources allocated to it, for the benefit of its students, its community, and its neighbors. Every member of this community steps up to do as much for each other as possible, and this school has remained tight knit even as its students have become needier, its classrooms have become more crowded, and its tax base has shrunk.

– State Senator Art Haywood

Why play matters

Research shows:

  • 90% of brain development happens before age five
  • Inclusive playgrounds improve social skills and reduce isolation
  • Kids in walkable neighborhoods are more active and healthy
  • Green spaces reduce stress and boost well-being for residents of all ages

Play it forward.

Your gift builds more than a playground. Help us turn a beloved community space into a lasting legacy of play, belonging, and joy for generations to come.

This is about more than play. It’s about the core of who we are in Jenkintown: connection, community, and living our lives side-by-side. It’s about honoring the past while investing in the future.
